Getting Here

Ocracoke can only be accessed by ferry, private boat or plane. There’s no bridge to Ocracoke, but the North Carolina ferry system offers ferry routes from Hatteras Island, Swan Quarter, and Cedar Island to the island. You can also arrive on Ocracoke by way of your own private boat or airplane. For more details, including ferry schedules and reservations, click here.

Getting Around the Island

Once you arrive on the island, you’re welcome to park the car and roam around the village a number of ways. You’ll find that Ocracoke’s streets are filled with golf carts, bicycles, and shuttles. Rental opportunities are readily available. For more details, click here.

Day Trips

Whether you’re on a nearby island like Hatteras and need to escape your family for a quick trip, or you and a special someone are on the mainland but ready for kite surfing or parasailing, a day trip to Ocracoke is the answer. Start by following NC Highway 12 South across the magnificent Bonner Bridge above Oregon Inlet, all the way down to the south end of Hatteras Island. You’ll find yourself at the Hatteras Inlet ferry terminal, where you can take one of the car ferries over to the island for free, or board our new passenger-only ferry (coming Summer 2019). You’ll arrive at Ocracoke’s Silver Lake Harbor. From here you can explore Ocracoke Village’s unique shops, take a stroll around the harbor, and enjoy a fresh catch at one of the dockside restaurants located right in the harbor. For those looking to explore beyond Silver Lake Harbor and Ocracoke Village, bike and golf cart rentals are readily available, as well as a free shuttle service.
